Poker Only Update

Somehow, somewhere, I have remembered how to play poker. Either that or I am suffering delusions of grandeur consistent with an extended heater.

So, here is the deal. I played crappy for quite a long time while trying to clear a recent Poker Stars bonus. My bankroll dropped somewhere down in the $150 range, forcing me to focus enough to re-build my bankroll. It's awfully tough to collect VPPs unless you are playing at least $0.50/$1.00 limit (and $1/$2 is MUCH better) so I needed to do that.

Somewhere in all of that focusing, I simultaneously rebuilt my bankroll and I remembered how to play. Anyhow, my bankroll steadily climbed and climbed. I have been particularly good about tilt control -- in short, I can't remember tilting in a long long time. I have also been really good at staying focused when I am playing. I am playing fewer tables and I am rarely surfing the net while playing. Also, when I am tired or uninterested in playing, I have been very good at quitting the game.

In short, I am kicking ass. I am playing aggressive but not too aggressive. I am also doing a really good job of picking off ridiculous bluffs. Today has been especially good, as I am up almost $150 over less than 500 hands (since the big bet = $2, this is a ridiculous win rate).

My goal is to build my bankroll up to $1000 and then to cash out every time that I get to $1200 and repeat. Eventually, I'd like to start playing for higher stakes again, but I am really enjoying all of this winning right now.

The bad news is that I have not had time to go fishing. I am hoping to go next weekend, but it looks busy. It sadly might be May 11th before I get to go.

Poker and Fishing Update

The end of the ice fishing season was quite a disappointment. I went out to Coon Lake on a Friday night and caught 9 crappies in about 30 minutes and then spent the next two hours trying (and failing) to catch my limit. The next day, the weather got really warm and I never went out again.

This past weekend, I made my initial foray into open water fishing. I went to Turtle Lake with the intention of catching a few crappies. For that goal, I failed miserably. I caught at least a half-dozen bass, even though they are still out of season. The weather was a little cold (and windy... which really sucks in a canoe) and since I wasn't catching crappies... I left early.

I'm thinking about bringing the big boat out this weekend. We'll have to see how it goes.

The poker has been pretty good lately. So far this year, I have basically been clearing bonuses as my only source of profit. Lately, though, I have been playing fewer tables and concentrating better and I have generally been doing better. It would be ideal if I were to play a single table of $1/$2 limit hold'em, but I get bored and I don't have the discipline to stick to it. So, I manage to keep my bankroll in the $350-$450 range, just [barely] enough to play at that level.
