A one hitter?
The last month of poker has not been good. I am having a difficult time keeping my focus for long stretches and I have a bad habit of playing above my bankroll. So, I have gone through periods of winning... and then losing. Basically, I have been hanging around $400 for a bankroll (as high as $500; as low as $340). Unfortunately, right now I am at $340. I am chasing a re-load bonus, so I need to clear a little more than 1600 VPPs to clear to get it.
Fishing has been very good. I discovered Rush Lake, which is 30-40 minutes north of my house. In my first trip there, I caught a handful of nice crappies, a few nice bluegills, and a few nice perch. I haven't done as well since then, but I am fishing in a very high traffic area and I think the fish are a bit spooked. My Marcum is ALWAYS marking fish... they just aren't biting.
Last night, I decided to make a quick trip to Coon Lake. I normally do well at Coon Lake, catching many crappies (they're not particularly big). One reason why I went there was to get GPS coordinates of my fishing spot. I discovered this winter that finding a fishing spot on early ice can be very difficult, as there are no permanent houses to help me find my way. Anyway, the GPS coordinates are 45(degrees) 18.508N, 093(degrees)09.835W.
Anyway, back to the fishing report. I immediately caught a nice-ish crappie (i.e., it wasn't great, but big enough to take home for dinner) and a second, tiny one. I then didn't catch much for the next hour, after which the crappies turned back on.
I had probably a half-dozen fish on the ice when some guy came over and got chatty. He wanted to know what I was doing and if I was catching any fish. I had seen this guy before, but he clearly didn't remember me. Anyway, I flipped open my portable to talk to him. I showed him my fish and my little Shrimpo bait. I even caught two fish in two minutes, one of which was the nicest fish of the day (about the average size at Rush Lake). He kept saying use "red wax worms" over and over. Anyway, I soon said "Hey, I'm getting cold; I'm going to close my portable."
About 30 minutes later, after I had 8 fish on the ice (I had thrown back at least this many), I was ready to go home. I am literally thinking "I'll go home if I catch one more fish." He returns and invites over to his permanent house "to get home". I said "no thanks; it's plenty warm in here and I'm about to go home." He then says, "Hey, you want a one-hitter". Oh boy.
