Fishing Report:
My first outing on the St. Croix River was so awesome that I had to go back. I was rewarded with not one very large smallmouth, but FOUR. I have now caught six smallmouth bass in the 4+ lb range in my life and four of them were caught on that trip. I also caught another keeper-size smallie that was 15+ inches long.
I also went out last weekend on Big Comfort Lake. My primary goal was to catch crappie for a small fish fry that I had planned, but I was also hoping to catch some bass, northern, or walleye too. I caught a limit of crappie (only 10) but I also caught four largemouth. That's typically a tough lake to fish, so I was very pleased by catching so many bass, especially because I did not spend very time trying to catch them.
Yesterday, I tried Ham Lake for the first time in my life. It was convenient (only a few miles from my house), but not great fishing. In the end, we caught a decent number of fish considering that we only fished for about two hours. I caught three northern pike, one on a spoon while trolling, another on a crankbait while trolling, and the third one on a spinnerbait. I also caught a bass on a tube jig, making it four fish on four different lures. I'll probably head back to this lake simply because it's convenient. I'll probably figure out a few more ways to catch fish there too.
Golf: I have been golfing quite a bit this year. Most recently, I played in Indiana with my family. I played 18 holes at a local muni and shot something like 98, while putting and chipping horribly. I then shot 44 for a 9-hole round, again putting badly. I could have easily shot 42 but I had a couple of stupid shots. Finally, I shot 42 on a 9-hole course with my father-in-law, which included one birdie and it should have included another. I was 200 yards out off of the tee on a five-par but then manage to hit a mediocre approach followed by an awful chip. I still made par by hitting an OK chip followed by a nice putt. We played two more holes for fun, and I parred them both. Last Friday, I played in a scamble, but played AWFUL. I hit one of the best shots of my life, though, hit a gorgeous 3-wood from about 240 yards to ten feet. Sadly, another member of my group hit his 3-wood to about 5 feet, so we didn't even use my shot.
Poker: I had about $60 in my FTP account, but then I got cocky and tried playing short-handed $0.50/$1.00 limit hold'em. I'm 100% positive that I can beat this game if I have the bankroll and that I can avoid tilt. Unfortunately, I had neither and I tilted away $40. With my remaining $20, I got the ingenious idea to play $0.05/$0.10 no limit hold'em with a cap. I also decided to play tight-aggressive, which is always a good idea. Anyway, I've been killing these very soft games and I have rebuilt my bankroll to just under $50. Considering a loss in a heads-up SNG, I am about +$30 in around 300 hands, or a win rate of ~ 100 PTBB per 100 hands. Nice!
